Spirit Week - Nerd Day!

Let's show some school spirit!

I, of course, being the nerd that I am, think nerds rock!

Let's give it to the Bill Gates' of the world! The scientists! The doctors! The engineers! And, hey, the teachers! They make the world go round!

Shape

GEOMETRIC SHAPES are shapes that can be measured. Think geometry!
Geometric shapes include circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and ellipses.
Geometric forms include cones, cubes, cylinders, slabs, pyramids and spheres.

ORGANIC SHAPES are free-flowing shapes found in nature or are any shapes that are NOT geometric. These shapes cannot be measured.

Line

What is a line?

A line is a continuous mark made on a surface. Line varies in width, direction and length.
If a line meets back up with itself it becomes a shape.

There are many kinds of lines:

Curvalinear, zig-zag, straight, thin, thick, dark, light, soft, hard, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, parallel, short, long, broken, bent, tapered, free-hand.

Pick one image and describe the composition and focal point and answer whether the photographer uses the Rule of Thirds.

Composition: Arrangement of artistic parts so as to form a unified whole. In other words: How the imagery, colors, subjects are arranged in a work of art.

Focal Point: The most important part of the image, usually the subject. Many times the focal point will have a bright color near it or on it to draw attention to it (warm colors: red, yellow or orange).

Rule of Thirds in Composition: Placing the focal point on the 1/3rd or 2/3rds line of the canvas, NOT right in the middle.

I hope everyone had a fun and refreshing summer! I am looking forward to my second year as the Fine Art, Computer Graphics, Yearbook and Photography teacher at Meeker High School!
