Patrick Andrade & The Tintype Studio!

The photography students of Littleton High School are so appreciative of the Littleton Public Schools Foundation grant!
Today, Patrick Andrade, of Relic Fine Art, visited our classroom and demonstrated the tintype technique. Students had fun creating their own tintypes, and learning about the history of photography! It was a fabulous hands-on learning experience! Thank you Patrick Andrade and Littleton Public Schools Foundation!

First Student Created Tintype!

Emily H. worked on the first student-created tintype yesterday! She is producing a series about human connection. Her work will demonstrate how we are all more alike than different, and will appear at the Continental League Art Show in April. Way to go, Emily!

Student Work!

For our black and white project, students researched meaningful topics and planned images to visually represent their concept. I am so proud of the thought and effort they put into their images, and how it relates to current affairs. Keep up the excellent work, everyone!

Shout Out to Scott McCormick!

Big SHOUT OUT to Scott Mcormick! His visit today was not only fun, but inspirational! The "Photoshop or Not" game kept us on our toes. It was truly interesting to learn about Scott's creativity and methods of problem-solving. Thank you so much, Scott, for visiting our classroom!

After the class visit, Scott posed for a tintype. Critical thinking was involved to figure out the correct exposure. I think this tintype exposure was about 28 seconds. Yes, you have to be completely still for 28 seconds!

Scott was voted one of Denver's Top Ten Graphic Designers, and has worked with Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Trout Steak Revival, You, Me & Apollo, and many more bands. You can view Scott's work on his website: https://mccormickphotos.com

Tintype Studio - Save the Date!

Patrick Andrade of Relic Fine Art visited my classroom today to help me set up the tintype studio. I took a tintype workshop from Patrick in the fall, and was so inspired, I knew that I had to bring it to Littleton High School! With the generosity from the Littleton Public Schools Foundation, LHS received a grant to fund the tintype project. Patrick Andrade will visit our classroom on March 23rd, and you will learn how to create tintypes! I'm so excited to be facilitating this opportunity! Stay tuned for more!

Today we were able to successfully create a tintype. I had four unsuccessful tries by myself, and one "just OK" tintype before the one I'm including in this post. A lot of problem-solving was involved, and there will be much more problem-solving to do! This tintype is far from perfect, and we will work together to improve our technique.
