Guest Artist: Alexi High!

Thank you so much to Alexi High for visiting Art Foundations yesterday! I met Alexi while volunteering at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival this year. Next week he will be heading to Paonia with his wife for an artist residency! How exciting!

Shout Out to Scott McCormick!

Big SHOUT OUT to Scott Mcormick! His visit today was not only fun, but inspirational! The "Photoshop or Not" game kept us on our toes. It was truly interesting to learn about Scott's creativity and methods of problem-solving. Thank you so much, Scott, for visiting our classroom!

After the class visit, Scott posed for a tintype. Critical thinking was involved to figure out the correct exposure. I think this tintype exposure was about 28 seconds. Yes, you have to be completely still for 28 seconds!

Scott was voted one of Denver's Top Ten Graphic Designers, and has worked with Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Trout Steak Revival, You, Me & Apollo, and many more bands. You can view Scott's work on his website: https://mccormickphotos.com

Tintype Studio - Save the Date!

Patrick Andrade of Relic Fine Art visited my classroom today to help me set up the tintype studio. I took a tintype workshop from Patrick in the fall, and was so inspired, I knew that I had to bring it to Littleton High School! With the generosity from the Littleton Public Schools Foundation, LHS received a grant to fund the tintype project. Patrick Andrade will visit our classroom on March 23rd, and you will learn how to create tintypes! I'm so excited to be facilitating this opportunity! Stay tuned for more!

Today we were able to successfully create a tintype. I had four unsuccessful tries by myself, and one "just OK" tintype before the one I'm including in this post. A lot of problem-solving was involved, and there will be much more problem-solving to do! This tintype is far from perfect, and we will work together to improve our technique.

Newborn Portraits

This weekend I had the honor of taking newborn portraits for a family that I used to work with. I created the portraits for their second child, and was very excited to meet the newest member of the family! If you are interested in starting a photography business, or even just taking portraits of loved ones, please do inquire in class. I'm happy to help!

Tintype Studio! Coming Soon!

The art department applied for, and received, an award from the LPS Foundation to set up a Tintype Studio at LHS. Photography students will learn about the history of photography, and how to create tintype photographs. Patrick Andrade, from Relic Fine Art, will be visiting LHS on March 23rd, during 4th period. This hands-on learning opportunity is certain to inspire!

Patrick Andrade has a studio in Denver. Clients can have their very own tintype created by a professional!

Tintype Workshop

My daughter and I had a fabulous time at the Patrick Andrade's Tintype Workshop this weekend! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and exceeded our expectations. The workshop was easy and fun, and we walked away with some very unique family heirlooms. I highly recommend checking out Patrick's website to view his art, or to sign up for future workshops.

Visiting Artist Patrick Andrade of Relic Fine Art

Today we were fortunate enough to have Patrick Andrade of Relic Fine Art visit our classroom. He brought his sweet large format camera and gave tutorials on wet plate printing, the camera obscure, and last but not least, cyanotypes. Everyone had lots of fun!

Patrick runs a photography studio in Denver with his wife. They create ambrotypes, cyanotypes, and tintypes. Soon he will be offering tintype workshops that YOU can sign up for! Yes, YOU! So exciting!
